A couple of weeks before Kimmy left for a deployment, she had told God that she was leaving her partner up to him for the first time in her life.
She arrived in Guyana and immediately became comfortable with the group of Coasties that she was deployed with. They laughed, sang, swam, and worked. They integrated with 14 different countries’ Coast Guardsmen as well, making jokes, and learning about different cultures, no matter the language barrier.
Garrett decided to ask Kimmy on a date to which she said yes but with a disclaimer: “I don’t just date around anymore. I’m being intentional about who I date and who I let myself be vulnerable with.”
He assured her that if she was serious, then he was serious.
They went on a date, their first date, and when they got back to the hotel, Kimmy immediately called Lyric and Caitlin (two of her now bridesmaids) to inform them that she was in love, all while knowing exactly how crazy that sounds. She just KNEW something was different.
After she flew back to Baltimore where she was currently living, she took two weeks of leave. The first week she spent with her parents in TN, gushing about Garrett. The second week, she drove all the way to a different STATE where Garrett was stationed, and they spent it together.
Fast forward 3 months later, Garrett told Kimmy that he loves her. He then informed her that right after their first date, he called Corbin, one of his now groomsmen, and told him that he was going to marry her one day and that he was in love with her.
Kimmy was so close to being taken off of the deployment, but God had other plans because at the very last minute, Garrett was added onto that very deployment where they met for their very first time.
We don’t believe in coincidence, we believe in God.
